Distribution and Habitat
It breeds on the Iberian Peninsula and in northern Mongolia, Amur, Ussuri, Northeastern China, Korea, and Japan. It is classified into 8 or 9 subspecies geographically. It is a common resident that breeds in South Korea.
Behavior
They find food as a family group or several groups and do not tend to stay in one location for long periods of time. It eats various foods such as corn, persimmons, tree frogs, arachnids, and grasshoppers. It makes the nest in forests around village. The nest is surrounded by branches and made into a rice bowl shape using fine grass roots. The female incubates the eggs for 15 days, and the juvenile stays around for 18 days in the nest.
Characteristic
The head is black. The wings and tail are blue. There is a white stripe at the end of the median-tailed plumage.
Juvenile
The front of the head has white spots on a black background, and the back and scapulars are dark brown. The breast is white or cloudy brown. The tail is short with a small white stripe on its edge.
